Risk Management

J Breheny Contractors Ltd believes that the whole team (Employer, Project Manager, Contractor, Supervisor, Contractor’s Designer, Employer’s Designer, Contractors subcontractors and Contractor’s suppliers) should be concerned with risk management.

In accordance with The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations we carry out suitable and sufficient assessment of all risks to the Health and Safety of employees and others, arising from a work activity. All those carrying out risk assessments are competent to do so and have an understanding of the workplace, an ability to make sound judgements and decisions, and the knowledge to identify the best practicable means to reduce risks.

Written risk assessments carried out by the Company contain the following information:

  • Determination of the likelihood of injury or harm arising
  • Any specific legal duty or requirement related to the hazard
  • Quantification of the severity of the consequences and the number of persons who would be affected
  • Sufficient information to enable the Company to decide upon appropriate control measures
  • A consideration of existing control measures
  • Correct and accurate identification of a hazard
  • Sufficient information to enable the Company to prioritise any remedial measures

For all significant activities carried out we also produce written Method Statements. These statements detail the sequence of works and identify any precautionary measures to ensure specific tasks are carried out in a safe manner.

All of our Risk Assessments and Method Statements are recorded on the relevant OHSAS Forms, which are available from the Company Health and Safety Office. The Forms are reviewed periodically to incorporate issues such as; a change in legislation, a change in available control measures, a change to the way in which the work is carried out, and development of new technology.
