Safety Campaign Results in 50% Reduction in AFR (posted 06 Mar)

Breheny's push towards improving safety on site has resulted in a 50% drop in the Accident Frequency Rate over the last two years. An integrated safety campaign was instigated by Construction Director, Trevor Stiff, and Health and Safety Manager, Brian Lee in 2006 and the ultimate target of zero incidents is now well within sight. Key components of the campaign include:

  • Safety Memoranda
  • Improved awareness of the "Safety Hotline"
  • Continuously updated and varied poster campaigns
  • New multi language Safety DVDs/toolbox talks, filmed and produced in-house
  • Additional general safety awareness and specialist safety training
  • Increased provision of NVQs in construction and site management
In addition, safety glasses are now compulsory on all sites and new uniforms, which include high visibility trousers, have been issued to everyone working on site.

A safety dvd for schools and youth groups is currently in production.  This will be distributed to all schools near Breheny sites and available to view on the website.
