Breheny Achieves European Environmental Registration
15 January 2008
J Breheny Contractors Ltd has been recognised by the EC Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) for environmental management.
The scheme is a voluntary initiative designed to improve companies’ environmental performance. Breheny, who has held ISO14001 accreditation since 2002, is one of only three civil engineering companies to have been successfully audited and registered by EMAS, proving that the company surpasses the minimum legal compliance and is continuously improving its environmental performance.
A key process over the past 18 months has been the development of environmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which provides Breheny with an objective measure of the impact it has on the environment and allows accurate benchmarking of environmental performance. During this period the KPIs have highlighted significant reductions in environmental incidents, waste production and office water use. Breheny is currently planning the installation of a wind turbine at its Suffolk headquarters to generate power for its offices and depot.
Breheny’s Chairman and environmental champion, John Breheny, said: “We are committed to respecting the environment and making responsible use of available natural resources”.
