J Breheny Contractors Ltd was set up in 1963 by Jack Breheny, who came to East Anglia from Ireland with just £2 in his pocket. By 1964, Jack was involved in the construction of the A12 Frostenden Bypass in Suffolk.
The company was formed in Lowestoft and is now based in Needham Market, Suffolk, with additional offices and depots in Huntingdon and Kent.
On 10 June 2005, Breheny acquired Witham Valley Civil Engineering Ltd, based in Boston, Lincolnshire
Jack's son John is now Chairman and Chief Executive of the company, which has approximately 400 directly-employed staff and a plant fleet of over 3000 items of equipment.
Breheny holds the following accreditions:

- ISO 9001:2008(Quality Management)
- OHSAS 18001:2007 (Occupational Health and Safety Management)
