Restoration of historic Victorian features, groundworks and landscaping to create community space.
The ‘Parks for People’ project aimed to transform Wandle Park, through the restoration of the River Wandle and key original historic Victorian features, into an area of safe open green space for the local community whilst enhancing the habitat for nature conservation and biodiversity.
We were responsible for works to de-culvert and divert the River Wandle which runs through the park. We also undertook the landscaping to 50,000m2 of the park to restore key original historic Victorian features.
Before and during the contract we provided value engineering solutions which saved the London Borough of Croydon approximately 10% of the contract sum.
The improved layout and facilities were funded with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund under the Parks for People programme, the Environment Agency, and the Mayor of London as part of his Help A London Park scheme.
