Excavations/groundworks and construction to create a variety of wetland habitats rich in wildlife at Bowers Marsh – approx 260 Hectares.

Bowers Marsh is an SSSI of approximately 270 Hectares with watercourses on two boundaries and a landfill site on one. The project was undertaken in two phases and included design alterations to mitigate the risk of unexploded ordnance and to maintain the habitat of protected species. Our task was to create a variety of wetland habitats rich in wildlife which required the construction of a reservoir, a saline lagoon, wetland works and habitat creation.

Funding for this project was secured from the Government’s Parklands scheme to create new, accessible wildlife sites in the Thames Gateway area. This meant Bowers Marsh could be transformed into the best marshland wildlife haven in the south of the county.

Upon completion of the project we were awarded an I.C.E. Physical Achievement Award.
